JAKARTA – PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) steps up completion of the open access Gresik-Semarang gas pipeline construction project so as to ensure energy supply in the island of Java. The 267 Km-long pipeline with a diameter of 28 inches stretching from Tambak Lorok, Semarang, Central Java, up to Gresik, East Java is expected to be completed in mid-2018. Having been built since 2015, the pipeline construction project has now been 84% complete, with an estimated total investment value of 250 million USD.

The Gresik-Semarang pipeline will supply gas from PT Pertamina EP Cepu’s field Jambaran Tiung Biru (JTB) to PLN Gresik with a volume of 100 MMSCFD. The supply will commence in 2020 under the Head of Agreement (HOA) signed by PT Pertamina (Persero) with PLN on Tuesday (8/8) at the office of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). "Pertagas assures that the Gresik-Semarang gas pipeline construction will be completed before JTB Field is onstream," said the President Director of Pertagas Suko Hartono.

Suko further explained that in the future Gresik-Semarang pipeline will distribute gas not only to PLN’s power plants, but also to fertilizer industries and other industries. "This pipeline will be the main gas infrastructure in Central Java and East Java, which will be connected to the Pertagas distribution network," Suko explained.

In 2018 Pertagas will build a gas distribution pipeline for industrial needs in both provinces with an estimated investment of 2.8 million USD to distribute 40 MMSCFD of natural gas.

Suko added, Pertagas will ensure equal gas supply in various areas in Central Java and East Java. "I hope it will support the improvement of the economy while enhancing the competitiveness of industries in both regions," he concluded.
